Texas PUC approves sale of Xcel Energy's Lubbock System to LP&L

The Public Utility Commission of Texas today approved the sale of Xcel Energy’s distribution system in Lubbock to Lubbock Power & Light Co. (LP&L), which moves the proposed sale one more step toward a final closing.

The sale, announced in November 2009, is scheduled to close in late October. At that time, all retail customers of Xcel Energy in will be transferred to LP&L. Xcel Energy will continue to sell wholesale power to LP&L.

The company is still awaiting approval for the sale from the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, and that decision is expected by the end of September.

For more information, contact Wes Reeves with Xcel Energy at (806) 679-7773, or Chris Sims with LP&L at (806) 775-2502.
