Lubbock
Power & Light (LP&L) Issues New
Emergency Electricity Disconnection Rules
Lubbock, TX -
Lubbock Power & Light today announced new emergency electricity
disconnection rules effective immediately for three (3) classes of
customers. LP&L feels these new emergency electricity disconnection rules
are necessary through the remainder of the summer season, when temperatures
can be expected to be high and certain customers may experience an inability
to pay their electric bill. The new emergency electricity disconnection
rules will remain in place through Sept 30, 2006.
Customers in these three classes
who wish to apply for special consideration under the rules, may do so if
they meet the definition of any one of the three classes, pay a 25% down
payment and set up a payment plan of no more than five months. Approved
customers can expect to receive their monthly bill(s) with the new monthly
charges plus any remaining balances from the previous month(s).
The three (3) classes of
customers are identified as:

Critical Care Customer/LP&L Account Owner
– An electric customer who can provide a letter from a licensed medical
physician identifying the condition of the patient, any required electric
equipment, or why electric service is critical to the LP&L Account Owner’s
well being. The letter should be faxed from the physician’s office on
letterhead to LP&L at (806) 741-1069. Customers who are already
identified as a Critical Care Customer and have provided a letter do not
have to resubmit a letter.

Elderly Low Income Customer/LP&L Electric
Account Owner – An electric customer who can provide proof of age 65
or older from a Driver’s License or Birth Certificate.

Low Income Customer – An electric
customer who can provide proof of income of all person’s in the
household. Documents such as their 2005 Federal Tax Return or two recent
consecutive pay stubs will be used to satisfy proof. Annual household
income must be at or less than the following Poverty Guidelines:

Electric Utility Board appointed by the Lubbock City Council. LP&L has
