Lubbock Power & Light (LP&L) Issues New Emergency Electricity Disconnection Rules
Lubbock, TX -

Lubbock Power & Light today announced new emergency electricity disconnection rules effective immediately for three (3) classes of customers.  LP&L feels these new emergency electricity disconnection rules are necessary through the remainder of the summer season, when temperatures can be expected to be high and certain customers may experience an inability to pay their electric bill.  The new emergency electricity disconnection rules will remain in place through Sept 30, 2006.

Customers in these three classes who wish to apply for special consideration under the rules, may do so if they meet the definition of any one of the three classes, pay a 25% down payment and set up a payment plan of no more than five months.  Approved customers can expect to receive their monthly bill(s) with the new monthly charges plus any remaining balances from the previous month(s).

The three (3) classes of customers are identified as:

  1. Critical Care Customer/LP&L Account Owner – An electric customer who can provide a letter from a licensed medical physician identifying the condition of the patient, any required electric equipment, or why electric service is critical to the LP&L Account Owner’s well being.  The letter should be faxed from the physician’s office on letterhead to LP&L at (806) 741-1069.  Customers who are already identified as a Critical Care Customer and have provided a letter do not have to resubmit a letter.

  2. Elderly Low Income Customer/LP&L Electric Account Owner – An electric customer who can provide proof of age 65 or older from a Driver’s License or Birth Certificate.

  3. Low Income Customer – An electric customer who can provide proof of income of all person’s in the household.  Documents such as their 2005 Federal Tax Return or two recent consecutive pay stubs will be used to satisfy proof.   Annual household income must be at or less than the following Poverty Guidelines:
