LUBBOCK TEXAS
LUBBOCK POWER AND LIGHT CUSTOMERS COULD RECEIVE REBATE
Lubbock Power and Light's residential and commercial
customers could get a rebate this year. LP&L President and CEO Gary Zheng
said the company's had an excellent financial year, and LP&L's citizen board
believes the company's customers should be rewarded for their loyalty. Under
the 2004 ordinance that established LP&L's board, the City of Lubbock will
have to approve the rebate.
Each customer's rebate would depend on their usage.
Zheng and the LP&L board have not yet finalized the amount of the rebate,
but said LP&L would like to issue the rebates before Christmas. Currently,
it would be a one-time only rebate, however, consideration would be given to
future customer rebates.
LP&L's citizen board also offered to pay a dividend to
the City of Lubbock.
"I am very pleased with LP&L's recent successes, and
admire their decision to rebate money to their customers," said Mayor David
Miller. "LP&L came to us with the rebate offer as well as an offer to pay a
dividend to the City. There are a number of administrative steps that have
to be taken to make the offers possible, including public hearings related
to the ordinance governing LP&L. The City Council will address those steps
in future Council meetings."
Lubbock Power and Light is a municipally owned entity
of the City of Lubbock that is separately governed by the independent,
